The humor is offbeat but not as bawdy as his later material, which Americans might know from programs syndicated in the U.S. The general theme of this collection is satire of the media, such as a bit about European variety shows that features Hill as half of a lederhosen-wearing Austrian dancing duo, "Fritz and Chips." A hilarious parody of a news broadcast with an interviewer in the studio and an interviewee at a remote location has Hill answering the questions, but disastrously out of sequence. The premiere of a movie made by the "fastest film director in the world" degenerates into a cascade of bizarre sight gags, and a fast-moving montage of television commercial parodies also features some inventive visual humor. The concluding skit, a Shakespearean parody in which Hill plays both a king and an impostor, gives him plenty of opportunity to mug at the camera and leer at a woman wearing (what else?) a low-cut royal gown. This isn't the most sophisticated comedy on earth, but it is funny, and this is a worthwhile collection of vintage Benny Hill. --Robert J. McNamara
